Ole Gunnar Solskjaer rubbished the idea David de Gea’s focus could be slipping as Manchester United battle to keep the goalkeeper at Old Trafford. De Gea’s deal expires in the summer and United are reportedly considering offering the Spaniard a gigantic £350,000-a-week deal to stay at the club. United have been slow to give in to De Gea’s demands and Gary Neville suggested on Sunday the stopper was distracted by the uncertainty surrounding his future. De Gea was at fault for Arsenal’s opener at the Emirates, misreading Granit Xhaka’s long-range effort, but Solskjaer denied his star goalkeeper was distracted. ‘Not at all,’ replied when asked if De Gea was unnerved by the contract talk. ‘David’s raelly focused and concentrated. He’s too professional to let his mind wander. ‘The best players they know how to focus and he’s been absolutely fantastic.’ De Gea is reportedly leaning towards staying at United after Solskjaer engineered a superb return to form since taking over in November. The defeat to Arsenal was Solskjaer’s first in the league as United manager and is just the second loss the Red Devils have suffered under the Norwegian. Arsenal leapfrogged United into fourth in the table, but Solskjaer insists the race for the top four is far from over with eight games left to play. He said: ‘Nerves aren’t in it yet. You see Spurs lose, we lose, Chelsea draw so it’s going down to the wire, down to the last few games definitely. ‘We’ve given ourselves a great chance to be in that fight. Two points behind fourth, 3 points behind third. It’s a good position to be in.’
