Ole Gunnar Solskjaer believes five wins from Manchester United’s remaining seven Premier League fixtures will guarantee a top three finish. Goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial helped the Norwegian record his 15th victory from 20 matches in charge in all competitions and, temporarily at least, lift United above Arsenal ahead of their game with Newcastle on Monday night. Solskjaer, who was confirmed as Jose Mourinho’s permanent successor on Thursday, has masterminded a stunning run of form which has turned United’s season around but with matches against the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea on the horizon, there is still plenty of work to do if he is to fulfil his objectives. ‘It was the start of the rest of the season for us. If we can get 15 points, we’ll be top three,’ he told Sky. ‘Watford started off really well and we struggled to get to grips with their tempo. ‘We defended great, and after about 20 minutes, I felt we were more comfortable. It was more a draw, performance wise. We’ll take the three points. ‘Some of the players who went away maybe played too much. ‘Marcus Rashford was really sharp, he is still feeling his ankle, but a great finish. The second goal I thought was going to be enough for us to control the game. ‘It was the start of the rest of the season for us. If we can get 15 points, we’ll be top three.’
