Manchester United are readying themselves for reported £3.8billion takeover bid from Prince Mohammad bin Salman . The Saudi royal family want to tempt the Glazers into selling the Premier League giants with the promise of restoring the club to the top of European game. The Prince, whose family are worth in excess of £850bn, has upped his efforts to take control at Old Trafford. They say the takeover attempt comes after United chiefs have been spotted spending an increasing amount of time in Saudi Arabia. Only a huge offer would convince the Glazer family to part with the club they first invested into in 2003. But after spending £790 million to buy United when they increased their shareholding 14 years ago, the American tycoons could be set to bank an incredible £2.2 billion profit. United have been in the shadow on Manchester City since they were purchased by Sheikh Mansour. The Abu Dhabi royal family's involvement has seen the club win the Premier League title three times. Mohammad bin Salman reportedly plans to make that investment seem minuscule in comparison should he be able to strike a deal. The Sun claim a bid is close but the valuation will be lower if United fail to earn a Champions League place. United travel to Chelsea in the FA Cup fifth round on Monday, the club's most likely chance of winning silverware this season. They are meanwhile attempting to make David De Gea the best paid player in Premier League history. The goalkeeper is out on contract in June 2020 and Old Trafford officials fear losing their number one on a free. Now, according to The Times , they have dangled the carrot of becoming the biggest earner ever in English football with a £90 million-plus offer - around £365,000-per-week - on the table.
